Excuses, excuses.

Greetings ya'll! Figured I'd just let you guys know why it has been forever since Madi and I posted a single darn thing. I have been searching for a new job since I've discovered I don't like working for evil corporations, while Madi has been doing the school thing (year-wise she should be a junior, but credit-wise she gets to graudate this year! yayayaayayyayayayy!)

In addition, we both actually have some sort of lives outside of the internet (lies).

So stay tuned, because this summer is just the beginning!

Uber Kawaii!

Alas, through MustHaveCute.com, I have discovered one of my new favorite artists, Kim-Anh Nguyen!
She hails from Switzerland, is obsessed with owls, and does some beautiful artwork. My favorite is the owl key and lock!
(She's also a fan of My Neighbor Totoro, so she's automatically my new favorite person.)

Check Kim-Anh out at http://kimanhnguyenart.blogspot.com/!

People We Love: Seth Aaron Henderson

One of the contestants on this season of Project Runway, Seth Aaron is and has always been true to his own artistic vision. No matter what the challenge, Seth Aaron has managed to inject a little bit of himself into every outfit he presents. His punk-ish style is edgy and unique, and his tailoring exquisite. His runway show on the finale of Project Runway was phenomenal, and I think we will definitely see more from Seth Aaron in seasons to come.
Congratulations to Seth Aaron for winning this season of Project Runway. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future collections! Love, Madi

NYC

So, I figured pictures from our trip to New York are long overdue. Joanna and I were there for fashion week last year. What a great first visit to New York!
Jo and I in Time's Square!!

The sky over Central Park was BEAUTIFUL!

Yes, we're complete and total hams for the camera.
Bryant Park!

You can't really tell, but that's Whitney Port in the striped shirt. We got to see the paparazzi in all their glorious action. Anyways, time for me to go. Sadly, homework calls.
 Love, Madi

House of Holland

Henry Holland is an up-and-coming designer that has already made headway in the UK, and is slow-but-surely making his way into the US eye. He first attracted notice with his bold, '80-inspired T-shirts with catchphrases such as "I'll tell you who's boss, Kate Moss." He sells acronym tees on his website with such phrases like "C.T.F.O." (Chill the F*ck Out), "F.F.S." (For F*ck's Sake), and H.O.H. (Hop on Hoochie) for £55, or about $83 USD.

Holland's inspiration is the London girl as she is "cool, confident and savvy and wears labels without letting them wear her."

All photos above are from the House of Holland Spring/Summer 2009 Collection.

A Sad Year for Fashion

Just yesterday, the world was informed of the death of one of the fashion industry's most influential designers. Alexander McQueen, who was always known for his avant-garde style and the use of everyday "junk" to create wearable accessories, passed away in his home on February 11, 2010. McQueen was constantly surprising the world with his originality and wild creations. We here at H&J wish his family the best, and can assure you all Lee Alexander McQueen will be greatly missed.
A beautiful dress from McQueen's pre-fall collection for 2009. McQueen also created an extremely memorable collection for Paris Fashion Week last year. This collection featured many designs featuring 'found' items being used in new ways.

There is no doubt that McQueen's refreshing and innovative designs will be missed.

The fashion world was also shaken by the death of another influential figure in the past year. The world-renowned photographer Irving Penn passed away at the age of 92 last October. During his career as a photographer, Penn worked with many of today's top models, and was responsible for many Vogue photo shoots. His beautiful photographs accentuated already beautiful people and fashions, and took the viewer to a dream world where anything was possible.

Salutations!

We're Madi and Joanna; and this is our blog.

We are college students, and in no way, shape, or form fantastical experts on the subject of fashion, music, or whatever else we may write about. We just know what we like, and can voice our own personal opinions rather than follow someone else's. We take a huge stance against putting down others' opinions, because everyone is different.

We are just fabulous, and we know it.
